Moths to Ashes – Tides EP

Moths to Ashes is a collaboration between Stu Welsh and Nick Wilday.

Tides is the debut release from Moths to Ashes and serves as a taster of the duo’s debut album. It features three tracks, two of which ‘Tides‘ and ‘Broken‘ are featured on the album ‘In Embers‘ (released 12th March 2021). It also features an exclusive track ‘Madison‘.

Stu says, “I always felt that Madison was one of those songs that just comes into being with little effort, almost like you’re channelling energy rather than actively writing the song. I had recently got back from my sisters wedding in Manhattan, it was a time of reflection and renewal for me. The trip was such a pivotal moment in exorcising the ghosts of my former life, that I almost became homesick for the buzz of the crowded city streets. The song just kinda ‘fell out’ of the guitar and I had to very quickly grab a portable recorder to get it all down, that portable recorder track later became the acoustic guitar tracks you hear in the final version. Whilst I was there, I also recorded some binaural soundscapes, those later became part of the final song. It’s sort of a love song to the city but, also a song about meeting your true self, in this giant city, in a foreign land, surrounded by thousands of people.”
